I voted 'yes'. I disagree with him on a couple of foreign-policy issues but both his activity in the Mideast and quite detailed answers in the confirmation hearing thread make me think that hifly deserves a fair chance.

Also, just two months ago the Senate confirmed Napoleon of all people to serve as GM in a near-unanimous vote (only Lumine voted 'nay') so let's keep things in perspective.

At this point I'm a little worried about selecting a Secretary who pledges to cut military spending. Cutting military spending was an admirable goal several years ago, but from naval cuts in 2007 to significant program cuts to our withdrawal from Afghanistan, we've already reduced our military to a reasonable level. I'd be very much interested in seeing what wasteful spending the nominee thinks exists and what areas and specific programs he'd cut.

Of course not.  A terrible decision.

Don't forget the administration just signed a bill that cut our military to even lower levels and combined several branches of the military into one big group. I'm not sure how much more we want to cut or what our current troop levels and funding for our intelligence operations look like at this moment.
