I understand the reasoning behind the bill, but I have too many concerns, primarily that these could allow for more harassment to take place between the genders and toward transgender people.
I wish my colleague had shared his concerns before this was moved to a final vote. As it was I thought I made the law as respectful of private business owners rights as it did recognizing that the state government should not enforce gender discrimination.
Comments about transgender discrimination are absolutely moot when you consider that many of these people easily pass for the other sex even with their original parts. Sometimes the only way you can really tell is if you look closely at their face or you somehow see their danger zone(s). The only real obvious examples are those that are either in their first few months of "transitioning" or those who are not taking any hormone medications. And even then, a public (emphasis as this was what the law was legislating) restroom is not the best place to decide to sexually harass/rape somebody. It might be a good place to get a bj from Larry Craig, but that's about it.
