What sort of studies interest you?  If you're into the physical sciences, you'll probably go on a tour of Caputo Hall.  It's a Saturday so there would not be much interesting going on, but it highlights the instrumentation and the facilities.  I'm not sure whether other academic departments do that.  Either way, if you're seriously considering MU, then take some time to visit the little booths and tables set up in the Student Memorial Center.  Talk to the faculty members who are there.  I imagine that at some point you'll have to listen to one of the deans drone on for about half an hour or so, but they might do that during the lunch so you can pay attention to your food while they're talking.  Usually it's light fare.  Sandwiches, wraps, chips, fruit, and cookies are commonly served at these things.  I'll probably be somewhere near the food around 12ish.

Millersville is my number one choice. I'm interested in studying English Education, and I visited back in April. The reason I'm going to the open house is because my parents are interested in seeing the campus, but I want to go back mostly because I enjoyed my experience quite a bit the first time around.

Glad you enjoyed your visit.  The English department has some interesting personalities, and from what the students say they span the political spectrum.  You'll be able to engage in conversation with enraged fascists yearning for a simpler time, tree-hugging hipsters in Che Guevara T-shirts and hemp scarves, and everything in between.  The Caputo Hall crowd tends to be a tad more stoic and apolitical than the English department, from what I have observed.

You just missed PrideFest.  Here's a scanned front page of today's student newspaper.

Oh goodie. Can't wait to meet all the fascists Tongue

I'm also interested in writing for the paper, so it's pretty cool to see that they do issues far more frequently than my high school does.

Applied to the position of "Passport Specialist" at the agency in Philadelphia.  Starts at $50,000 with benefits.  Would be an ideal situation and I could even be in the market to get my own place without doing a roommate search.  Crossing my fingers and praying to science.

They get pretty edgy sometimes.  For example, when the president made the unpopular decision to have Corbett speak at commencement, they supported a protest.  They also come off as very pro-union and minimum wage hike.  You'd fit right in.  They also have movie reviews, arts, sports (laughingly bad predictions about the MLB championship series), op/ed, and some national & world news.  I don't think it's daily, though.  Maybe twice per week.  I pick one up from time to time.  Not bad reading, as university newspapers go.  By the time you enroll Wolf should be the governor so they won't have quite as much to bitch about.

My essay idea which I liked a lot was shot down, and I'm back looking for an international internship. Stuff could be better Tongue

I did splurge on a Swanson Pyramid of Greatness and Mean Girls posters, though. I love randomly buying fairly useless stuff I like, for no good reason (like buying a South African flag in Niagara Falls).

"Typical, cushy administrative government job"- description from a friend that works there.  I applied not so much for exactly what the job entails, but more so for the 9-5 hours, work sitting down, weekends off, government holidays, benefits, healthcare, proximity to home, etc.

Surgery was a success. Safe to say my weekend is going to be "disregard everything, acquire ice cream".

I remember when I got my wisdom teeth out. Immediately after while I was still under the anesthetic, the nurse told me to sit down in a separate room and I kept trying to stand up and walk around. It was a hoot, apparently.

My dentist keeps trying to get me to let her pull out my "wisdom" teeth.  No, thank you.

Good to hear.

When I had my wisdom teeth out, surgery was successful, but I later developed a dry socket.  That was a little unpleasant.

The Robinson Street, Hudson vision slowly, very slowly  - about 4 months behind schedule, with rather massive cost over-runs to boot,  glacially creeps to fruition, sans the garage-artist studio, with apartment above, structure along the alley in back, yet to be built, but now permitted after a most fascinating political struggle to secure the variance, and then even after the variance grant the permit issuance itself after a last minute attempt by the code enforcement officer to try to change the law, and delay the permit issuance until he could,  which required a meeting with the mayor to tell the enforcement officer to chill out and bug off.  Anyway, it's now staked out. The latest glitch on that was the 2 foot elevation change along the alley in back, which had not been accounted for. So many problems to solve, so little time. I wish there were about 40 hours in a day, and humans did not need to sleep. Why did biology come up with the time wasting idea of the necessity to sleep? It's ludicrous really.

Anyway, the project has rather substantially changed the "vibe" of the block, an almost stereotypical example of gay men homesteading in an edgy hood, because no one else with some money would, and well  - gentrifying it all. Three other homes on the block are also now being renovated due to my little rather insane vision, at least if it were solely a green eye shade exercise.

Turned on the heat today.  First time this season.  It was 62 in the house this morning when I awoke, and I just couldn't take it any more.  Yeah, I'm a pussy.  I promptly set it at heat and 70.  Anyway, we have had that first-use-of-the-season burned dust smell in the house all day.  It's forecast to be in the high-30s again tonight, so I reckon we'll leave it on overnight, although I may set it at 68 or so.

I just got home from a 7 hour shift at work. I was originally supposed to work 4.5 hours today, but last night they called me and asked me to cover someone else's shift. It was absolute hell.

One of my friends was killed by a drunk driver last night. I'm not much of a praying man, but keep him in your thoughts and prayers for me.

I was coming here to complain about something, but that's damn tragic. I'm sorry to hear it. It definitely puts my six weeks away from Tommy in perspective.
