I echo Tony's words here. I too have flirted with suicide from time to time in my life, but it's not worth it. I'll be praying for you, TDAS. I know what depression can be like.

Good news; today, I toured TCC for orientation and got my classes arranged. I then received a voicemail from the woman who ran the Sister Cities essay contest saying that she had "good news." I never got a chance to call her back, but my essay might be in the national semi-finals. I also was called by the field director of the local AFP branch, and was offered a job as a field associate! Very good day in all regards.

First day on the job as a Field Associate. Visited 40 houses and didn't get a single poll. The good news is that I am a semi-finalist in the Sister Cities International Essay contest. I lost to a girl from Ireland who apparently won the $1,000 grand prize. But it is still pretty cool that my essay is going on a twelve city tour.

Two and a half months after the end of my relationship with the Trinidadian gender theorist (I hestitate to call it a 'fling' because that implies a lack of seriousness of intent but in terms of duration that's unfortunately what it was), I have a crush again, this time on somebody who runs a comedy blog that gently sends up the works of Tolkien. For a long time I forced myself to believe that I'm someone who doesn't get crushes easily, because of somewhat unhealthy romantic notions that derived, ironically, in part from an ill-timed rediscovery of certain of the lesser-known works of Tolkien. I'm working on becoming okay with the fact that I actually get crushes pretty easily.

I'm not pursuing this one. She and I have become close friends and talk a lot about life and dreams and desires and stuff, and she and I want the same things out of a relationship, but unfortunately this is meant in the sense of wanting to play the same role in a relationship, and so it wouldn't work.

Tomorrow is AFP's National Day of Action. As a freshly hired Field Associate, I will be working 9-5 walking the streets of Boca Raton, knocking on hundreds of doors in 90+ heat, and will likely only get 10-15 surveys total. Plus I have to drive volunteers around, which makes me nervous.

Not necessarily, there've been woman who have preferred the name of "King" just because of the implications of power it has that Queen supposedly lacks.

But if Bacon Queen is it now, then I can roll with that, BQ's actually quite catchy.
