Don't do that. You should tell someone you can trust and who can be there with you.

I'm better now. I didn't do any lasting damage. Thank you for the concern.

Good to hear you're better. Take care Smiley

My mom just used the word "mansplaining", in an entirely serious way. Wow. Like, it's one thing that she's internet-savvy. It's another thing that she uses SJW words... Huh

Why is Introduction to Russian so high on your list? My experience in language intro courses is that you don't learn very much so they're not of much value down the line... and since you seem so interested in the other courses... well... it's not my place to say, but... yeah.

I changed my display name to my AH.com usertitle so people know who I am. I'll probably change it to something else in a few days.

I can brag about nothing in terms of language skills outside of English, and the area I want to get into would likely demand knowledge of at least one foreign language. Given that I'm almost entirely unwilling to torture myself with Arabic or Chinese, and I don't ever plan on being a border patrol agent, Russian looks to be acceptable in the current state of the globe. It's a European language that appears based on Greek, so I can't imagine it would be unbearably difficult. Nevertheless, I've next to no exposure to Russian aside from reading most of "Hunt for the Red Oktober", so I'd be pensive about going into a higher level Russkie course. The other language I'd like to learn would be German, but I don't see us having a rather large geopolitical controversy with them soon, so...

[Also, I've checked around, and it seems like community colleges in the Detroit area--Wayne, Oakland, Macomb--don't have Russian courses, so it's not like I could just plow through an entire certificate in one summer somewhere else. Might do that with German though at some point.]

The relation of Greek to Russian is similar to the relation of Latin to English: not the main source, but many borrowings including the basis of the alphabet.

Slightly different because Russian borrowed directly from (Byzantine) Greek while the Latin influence on English came via (Norman) French. /pedantic

Also the English alphabet is identical to the Latin Alphabet plus a few letters. The Cyrillic alphabet is substantially different from the Greek alphabet.

I'm dyeing my hair black to go as Simone Weil to a Halloween party. It's the first time I've ever colored my hair.

Met him, had to bribe my way into the line that wrapped twice around the building. Met a girl. Details to follow later.

So yeah, just got out of class.

Anywho, I met Ben Carson. I arrived at the Books-A-Million off of Thomasville road (way on the other side of Tallahassee) with my friend Drew only to find that there was no parking, so we had to park at a public park and walk a mile. We arrived just as the campaign bus pulled in. The orderly line of about ~100 people fell apart as people rushed to greet Carson, and I got a picture (my only picture of the day) of him entering the store.'

Drew and I raced to to the rapidly reforming line, but as I had not purchased a book (I was just trying to get up front and meet him without spending $25 to buy his red meat campaign garbage) I was asked to leave. I went to the front of the store, waited 30 minutes in line and bought it anyways. I then discovered that the line was now about 500 people longer and wrapped around the entire store. I was not about to leave after blowing $25 on that book, so I instead meandered through the aisles pretending to be looking at other books until I was about fifteen people away from Carson. After two failed attempts to bribe my way into the line for an extra five bucks, I got in with a girl about my age who was really hot. Talked to her in line, got her number, and went on to shake Carsons hand and get my book signed.

So yeah, pretty awesome day.

This month has been a tough one, I've buried three people who are very close to me. Earlier on October I buried my uncle, then today I buried one of my good friends and on Wednesday I bury an aunt of mine.

Medellín really is my favourite city in the world, seriously. Every time I go there I discover something awesome about that incredible city. If anybody has the chance to go there, I'd jump on it.
