I could write a novel, but I'm aware I'm not starving, naked, or even doing poorly in my classes, so... I am no longer sure what things such as "fun" and "sleep" are. It's not all bad. I am sitting with a completed 20 page term paper (scoff if you so please at my implication of 20 pages being "long') in front of me that is not due for another two days. But then again, I had planned to be at this point a week and a half ago...

At this juncture I feel feelings are bad and ought to be suppressed.

On a completely unrelated note, why the hell do Chai Lattes cost so much? And why must they cost $5.06? Surely they could have lowered the price by five cents so it'd be a decent $5.00? Can we just ban coins that aren't quarters? Speaking of Chai Lattes... oh, forget it.

It kind of sucked having to work today on Christmas Eve (luckily, I (and everyone else) got off at 4, but still) though we're having a good night as a family.

My family and I went out for pizza and are watching a few movies now. We just finished National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation a little bit ago which is a really funny movie (I love the Aunt Bethany "Pledge of Allegiance" scene Tongue), and we're undecided on what to watch next. Polar Express, maybe?

Do your patriotic duty and buy The Interview. My family already has.

Also, there are an increasing number of faranges at our Christmas party. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

Movie was meh, and very vulgar, but it is still your patriotic duty to buy it nevertheless. As this editorial said:

Viva Cathcon, viva! Away with public displays of affection, and their arrogant and wrong monopolisation and privatisation of public space. Keep it to yourself, and you don't have the right to make it awkward for me to simply be in a public place because of your canoodling.

Feel like dogsh#t. Woke up Sunday morning feeling like crap and it hasn't let up since. I assumed it was directly because of how much I smoked the day/night prior, but this has quite clearly become indicative of a sickness (aside from addiction, of course Tongue). Rendered almost completely unproductive because of this.

Cigarettes are terrible.

Today my roommate was complaining to me about his latest failed OkCupid date. We talked about that for a few minutes and then the conversation lapsed and I went back to making my dinner. Then he brought up how cool reddit is (I guess he was reading it on his phone) and we talk about that for a few minutes. And then he says he found an interesting new subreddit the other day. I said, "Oh yeah, what is it?" And he says, "Have you ever heard of The Red Pill?"

smh 😒

Save him before it's too late!

Here's why a "Simfan update" would never be worthwhile: I had been invited to a party but elected to stay in the library on the grounds that the party, which would I probably wouldn't enjoy all that much, was less important and that I would be better off doing some research for the professor I'm a research assistant for. There'd be less progress than Bushie.

Eh, whatever.

Ooh. I assume you're a political science student, unless you've already received your bachelor's, in which case I'd guess you were going to law school.

You know, I've realised that it must be harder for me to get away with skipping classes due to the whole being black thing. I was just thinking about it now, since I was considering getting up earlier to write something (in French, and I'm tired and having enough difficulty stringing together sentences in English as is) and possibly skipping an early class (and going to recitation later), until I thought about it and it dawned upon me that my absence would probably be noted being the only person with this... distinguishing characteristic in a class of 40-odd people.

That, I suppose, and the fact the syllabus gives no guidance whatsoever as to what's going to be covered on a given day so I couldn't possibly make up for it by reading the book. Which I don't actually think even covers what we're doing now. So the "proper" reason as well. Suppose I ought to hurry to bed then.

Wait is there a non-college algebra class at his college? Huh

Maybe it's Linear Algebra or something appropriate like that and I'm being unfair, but, particularly when throwing in the "Interpersonal Communications" thing, I get the impression it's not terribly, erm, advanced.

I don't actually talk to people enough, I can tell you that much. But what I can't tell, which is worrisome, is whether my eagerness to talk to people in certain contexts (say, after a class), is out of the desire to have an interesting conversation or is some semi-conscious attempt to convince them that I know a lot.

I say this because I was in a class today (having spoken quite a bit) and the latter idea came to mind, after which I didn't say anything. Afterwards I mentioned to the professor about how the discussion topic had related to the topic of the Ivorian economy (this is a seminar on the state and development, I should add, not entirely random), and since he said he didn't know much about its history I began to explain but kept on cutting myself short as I was not sure whether I was trying to explain the history of the Ivorian economy to him or rather show him how knowledgeable I was about the Ivorian economy.

Later, after a lecture in a class on Ancient Egypt about how, I guess, the Hyksos did not actually exist but were a result of a narrative crafted by Hatshepsut, I wanted to tell someone about how that would explain why Manetho credits the removal of the Hyksos to a Thutmosis, since it was Thutmose III who, as we know, supplanted Hatshepsut in most of the records (who in turn had taken credit for this "expulsion" from an earlier king); and since the idea that it was Thutmose III who erased Hatshepsut's name from history out of spite has been seriously contested, I wanted to say that the main lesson from the lecture was that studying history is pointless because everything we know is wrong, which I suppose is what passes for humor with me these days.

Why did I want to say this, however? Because I found it interesting, or because I wanted to show someone that I knew these things about Hatshepsut and Thutmose III? Things have been going well, but (or quite possibly because) the amount of socialising I do has gone to virtually zero. I suspect I'm now quite desperate to talk other people. That does not answer the question, however.

Either way, I'm sorry for your loss afleitch, and best of luck for your husband. Also congrats to Hagrid for getting into grad school and to SMilo for getting a job at UBS (?).

Do I really want friends? I'm unsure. Too often they seem a chore and too unreliable.

A few posts above I mentioned that an older brother of mine died a few weeks ago.  Not a single condolence response from any of you?  Ok.  Nice "community."

I'm very sorry to hear that- must say you buried the lead somewhat. Tragic and you have my condolences.

I dreamt of eating pizza last night, in the Village, then I walked down a pedestrian road (obviously nonexistent) to another one and ate some more pepperoni pizza.

Now I want pizza.

The worst thing about not being with someone is having no one to sleep with and spoon. Sad

Like 95% of the Atlas deals with this as part of their default and ongoing existence. We cope.

Well that's ing depressing.

Duh.

Indeed, but it is (for some of us) the moral way.

My recollection was that the math portion was easier than the SAT and had something like a 10% or more rate of people getting literally every question right, whereas the verbal portion was chock-full of obscure $10 words that even very literate people may have never heard of, and thus a perfect result was basically completely impossible.

And I saw this as someone who isn't really a math person at all.

The disconnect between the treatment of the two halves was striking, to say the least.

I've been studying and, yes, the verbal portion seems to be filled with words I have never before heard in my life. Meanwhile the quant section is at most high-school level stuff. Very bizarre.

I dreamt I had a conversation with someone I knew in one of the university libraries. Now I feel weird, because I vividly remember the mildly interesting things we were talking about and keep on wanting to message this person but have to remind myself that this conversation did not happen.

Perhaps this is my way of telling myself that I want to get back to school and am bored with summer.

I am at my cousin's college orientation and the councillors are giving their preferred pronouns. God help us.

All so far have been normative, however.
