Interesting approximation to the pre-WW1 border between Romania and Austria-Hungary on that map.

Here is a website where supposedly results will turn up eventually.

http://www.gandul.info/rezultate-alegeri-prezidentiale-2014-primele-exit-polluri-publicate-diferente-mici-intre-iohannis-si-ponta-13558244.html

One of my friends queued for 4 hours to vote. Another friend has been in line for hours and might not get to. Some people had to wait for 10 hours. Voters who got turned away rioted in Paris and Torino apparently and got dispersed by local police with water cannons and stuff. Rumours about election fraud, of course. There is fear this might get ugly.

I think there is something fishy. All exit polls are tied and not a single result has been made public. This makes no sense to me.

Romanian friends tell me parties do parallell counts that are usually faster than the official ones due to some bureaucratic rules around the system.

Whoa, didn't see this coming. Not after all the usual suspects endorsed Ponta immediately after the 1st round and Udrea issued a half-hearted call for voting according to conscience. I'd love to see an explanation for the turnout boost across the country - I expected the Hungarians to come out in force, but it seems that all across Romania people came out to vote for Iohannis.

Good, after Ponta attempted to fraud the election in embassies.

So basically it looks like a repeat of the Slovakian presidential election?

It does not even look close. With 14,424/18,847 precincts reporting (if I understand the Romanian right), it is

Iohannis 54.81%
Ponta 45.1%

Iohannis lead is over 850,000 votes. So far, they have counted just over 200,000 foreign votes, so this is not going to be decided by the expats either.

Yeah, the exit polls were wrong.

Good to see the Ponta-crook getting crushed.

Advice for expat-voting next time:

* Allow a 1 week or 10 day early voting period at each foreign embassy (in each round).
* Allow postal voting.
* Increase the polling stations at embassies in the biggest cities with Romanian expats by 10 or 20 times.

The chaos in front of the embassies yesterday was a fu**ing disgrace and the EU or the OSCE should definitely look into it and then hand over a damning report to the incompetent/deliberately obstructing Ponta-crook.

Very curious about this as well! Reminiscent of the recent Polish election results too.
