Evil criminal. A genuine shame he did not meet his end in the killing fields.

F[inks] you.

FF on grounds of, if nothing else, sheer staying power. Of course, in his last reign he was little more than a figurehead, at least after the ousting of FUNCIPEC. Hun Sen has run the country since 1985 or so. But, I mean, he was still there!

That makes no sense. I don't support a monarchy in this country. Who else would i vote for? I mean what you just said... makes no sense.

Anyway I was anti-American Revolution back in kindergarten, well before I considered myself a Republican.

I love that a non-negligible percentage of the Americans here probably also consider themselves "anti-American Revolution". The Atlas Forum is so weird.

And yes,

I don't think the 'royalty=scum' formulation is entirely fair for the simple reason that it's not exactly a status one can usually choose for oneself, but Norodom Sihanouk was still an HP anyway.

I guess noone is forced to be King/Queen... There are two simple words that make you not-monarch in less than two seconds...

American political party names are an interesting time capsule of pre-socialism sinistrisme; the least whiggishly-named major party America has had were the Whigs.

Anyway, no non-poseur "reactionary" could think "King" Sihanouk worthy of the dignity of that office, his having devoted his life to spreading chaos and the worst misrule in the entirety of human history within his country. Moreover, he never actually even held power in the first place, so not even de Maistre would be much impressed.

Now, I'm not much of a democrat and certainly no republican...
