Still don't believe this happened.  Quinn loses yet Brownback survives.

It's really not that surprising. Rauner was no Brady or Romney despite attempts to paint him as such, and Quinn was an epic failure by pure record and ran a crappy, desperate campaign.

This probably would've happened earlier in 2010 if the Illinois Republican Party didn't screw up their choice of candidate.

Just saw "Pat Quinn" under the "Recent deaths" in Wikipedia and was quite shocked. Turns out it's some other Pat Quinn.

Scott survives also; that's more shocking. Brownback is just a crazy fool, but Scott's actually a criminal.

I was also shocked briefly. But it's a Canadian sportsperson, not Gov. Quinn.

So do I. Bruce Rauner is a big improvement over Pat Quinn, who wasn't an effective governor at all. In addition, Pat Quinn completely screwed up with his handling of the taxation and budgetary issues that Illinois is facing and did nothing to reduce the unemployment rate in Illinois, which is still one of the highest in the country.

Hopefully he is able to reduce the power of the unions despite the democrats having a majority in the general assembly.

Pat Quinn ran on recall reform in 2010, as it turned out, he wasn't the reform agent that the patrons of Illinois was looking for. Madigan, not Quinn was the reform agent that Dems were looking for.

Rauner on the other hand was the G O P's reform choice. And we are looing forward to a different result against Kirk in 2016 with Duckworth and Democratic nominee for gov in 2018,

It is not all bad for Pat Quinn.  After all, he did get to serve several years as Rod B's Lt Gov.

The state of Illinois should be forever praised for throwing out Pat Quinn. With Bruce Rauner, the Illinois economy will come roaring back.

If he wasnt cockblocked by a democrat controlled legislature beholden to the unions and leftist environmentalist groups, Illinois's economy would of been able to do the reforms it needs.

Actually if you search up the current fiscal problems in illinois.

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/07/23/usa-illinois-sp-idUSL2N0PY29A20140723

http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/11/21/usa-illinois-pensions-idUSL2N0TB2EY20141121

The unions are a huge roadblock towards reform and just kicking the can down the road isnt going to make the problem go away.

If he wasnt cockblocked by a democrat controlled legislature beholden to the unions and leftist environmentalist groups, Illinois's economy would of been able to do the reforms it needs.

Growth in government spending ends in one of two ways: either, the government will not, or cannot spend any more. Once you understand some limit will be reached some day, opting for the former makes more sense. The politicians in Illinois have rigged the system in favor of the latter. The fiscal situation in Illinois is unsustainable, untenable and highly resistant to reform.

The real question is how soon Illinois' death spiral begins, and, how quickly that death spiral accelerates. As businesses realize taxes in Illinois will only go up, they will flee, leaving the remaining businesses in an even more untenable position. The economy of Illinois will be hollowed out well before the state goes bankrupt.

As a number of Republican gubernatorial candidates fell behind in the fall, Quinn's passing Rauner in the polls troubled me the least. I was completely comfortable letting the Democrats "own" what's next for Illinois.

Madigan being an agent of reform is laughable at best.

Lisa Madigan is the most regarded politican in Illinois after cleaning up the Attny General office that Jim Ryan left corrupt after the License for Bribe Scandle under George Ryan. That's why she was elected in the first place, and Jim Ryan lost his bid for Gov.

As for Bruce Rauner property and tax reform is his number one goal, but the Democratic legislature will supercede anything else he accomplish and he wont be in the spotlight come 2016 senate matchup/Prez race and 2018 Gov, where I expect Madigan and Vallas to take him out.
