Yes, and I just got mine renewed earlier this year.  And I also got myself a Global Entry card.  All in preparation for my trip to Africa next April into early May....

Yes.

Very interesting that all the people who aren't American state they do, but only about half the Americans have one. Do you c**ts just live in your parents basement or something?

(Germany mandates that you carry an official ID with you all the time).

This is incorrect. You're obligated to have an ID card, but you're under no obligation to carry it with you.

Yes, for Germans.

But foreigners entering Germany are required to carry it with them as far as I know.

I kind of had to get one to visit Cancun, Mexico two years ago. I still have it, and it doesn't expire for another 8 years. Plus it helps to get your license renewed since Georgia's become stricter with getting your license.

The US is much larger than most other countries, so you can travel farther without a passport. Furthermore, I suspect that the average foreign poster is considerably older than the average American poster, and thus more likely to have a passport.

Because never having been outside of a country that's 3 million square miles and has 300 million people is totally the same thing as never leaving your parents basement. Roll Eyes

Several posters without passports live in states that border Canada though. Nowhere in Washington is more than a few hours drive from the border. Aren't you just a little curious to see what's out there in BC? That'd be much less challenging that an Australian leaving his country.

I don't have a passport because I've never traveled outside of the country. It was not ever a financial possibility in my family until after I had graduated high school, and personally, I wouldn't want to travel abroad at least until I could say that I've seen everything I want to see in my own backyard. I don't plan on getting a passport unless circumstances force me to do so or at least until I've seen everything I want to see here. The former seems like a remote possibility, given that I'm nowhere near financially well off enough to throw money away on a passport right now.

Yes, it is all because we are lazy and ignorant.  It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the fact that many people simply don't have the disposable income for foreign travel.  A passport will set you back 100 bucks iirc, multiply that out for families, then you have air fare, hotels, rental car, food etc etc. People are barely scraping by as it is.  With cheap gasoline, it is much easier for most folks to drive to Grandma's or Aunt Betty's.

Nope; the only time I ever left the country was back before you needed one to go to Canada. Funnily enough, my GF has a passport but not a driver's license, and has to carry it around the city in case she gets carded at bars.

Yes (American).

Took me exactly four weeks to get it and standard American oddities apply as to cost, receiving it, etc.

I plan to travel somewhere abroad at some point.
