Tweed made a great point when he pointed out that any of the posts accusing opebo of being a pedophile would be deleted and heavily infracted if you replaced "opebo" in them with the name of any other member.

...how many other members do we have for whom there's reasonable grounds to suspect noncery?

Also in regards to the advertisers not liking the links that were posted, let me pose the following scenario:

I demand that krazen be banned and state that if he isn't I'm going to post hardcore pornography on the forum. He isn't, so I start posting hardcore porn. The ad company finds out and sends a notice to Dave in regards to this, so to get me to stop krazen is banned.

Because the equivalent of that is basically what happened.

...how? Opebo was doing it himself.

Well, your masterful plan would quickly crash with Nym dropping the hammer.

You came here after dazzleman, but he actually made sexual comments about underage girls, and there was a mass outrage when someone called him a pedophile.

No, it was Gully, not opebo, who was posting the problematic links in question.

But Gully is still here and opebo isn't...

Time to ban Gully. He was warned but he continues to post pornographic links.

But I commend the soon-to-be-banned Gully for being honest and proving that opebo is not a pedophile, as he clearly describes a 19-year-old prostitute in that tale as the "prime age."

He had a lot of repulsive views and practices. In both these terms he was probably the most reactionary person on the forum which makes it pretty ironic that our hipster leftists adored him so much.

Why is it ironic that I don't want to ban people whose views I don't agree with? We're not all fascists like you, Gus.

See stuff like this makes it so hard to discuss with you. Also, I didn't say that it was ironic that you opposed his ban. Had this been done in a Voltaire way of "of course Opebo is absolutely atrocious but I still think we shouldn't ban even the most reprehensible views" it would have been one thing. The mindless fawning over him as the best and greatest person ever is a different story. Which is what I wrote about.

opebo seemed like a forum institution to me, I am still surprised he is gone. Overall I enjoyed his posts, he was quite one-of-a-kind.

That's the issue for me. Yes, I wan't exactly fond of him, his BS and his outright hypocrisy... but the response to his departure that he was some kind of martyred hero was really too much to bear.
