Yeah if only because I've yet to find an atheist I've liked politically.

In this sense, yes. If the President in question was an atheist in the sense of John Key, than no.

No, someone's religious beliefs would not really factor into my assessment of that person as President

Not inherently.

As long as they're not a militant atheist like a stereotypical Communist or a neckbeard, I wouldn't have an issue.

Why would an atheist President bother you when you're atheist yourself?

It's probably something to do with the inherent beliefs that come along with atheism that only atheists have experienced.  In some respects, they might not always have the best utility.  I certainly disagree with SPC, but I have to assume that's where his opposition comes from.

There would at least be some comfort in the idea that even the most powerful man on the planet believes himself to be limited by divine providence. Unfortunately, I suspect that many more leaders have been unconstrained by that fantasy than are or were willing to admit.

I'm a bit confused by this. Do you mean you have religious beliefs somewhere between Catholic and Lutheran, but don't actually attend church? Or is it something else that I'm missing?

Yeah, exactly that. Catholicism and Lutheranism are the only religions I've ever been heavily exposed to, because my mom and dad are those two things, respectively. So essentially my beliefs are like a mixture of those two, along with some agnosticism. It's very confusing, which is why I just save time and avoid talking about my religious beliefs.

So, you avoid talking about them because they make no sense? Sounds like many other religious people.

It depends on the atheist. In most cases, I wouldn't bat an eye, but if it was some brain-dead Dawkins fanboy, I'd take the noose before I ever gave them my vote.

All in all, Option 3.
