Do newspaper endorsements ever matter?

In Texas, Republicans rarely get endorsed in the general election anymore and the candidates they endorse in the GOP primary usually don't win. At this point, I think not getting the endorsement of a major city's newspaper is seen as a good thing by the GOP and their base. More proof that they aren't in the tank for the "liberal media."

That would appear to be the case, except the Wicked Warlock doesn't live in Kansas.

Republicans don't read newspapers - they merely yell in online comments sections about biases and write nasty letters to the editor about such - so no, I don't think this changes anything.

Newspapers are generally partisan, and it's all about the partisan lean of a newspaper for the significance it may have on a race. If say, a Republican newspaper endorsed Greg Orman, that would be something, but it's a generally Democratic newspaper, which isn't surprising since Orman's running as the "secret" de facto Democrat.

There have been far more important newspaper endorsements this cycle.

Do newspaper endorsements ever matter?

They can still matter a bit in downballot races and low profile primaries.
