Not bad! Do you think he'll win? I have family out there and there does seem to be a lot of goodwill toward Dold, despite the district's partisan leanings.

Doubt it. If Madigan doesn't run, it'll be one of the state's democratic us representatives.

Finally, we've got some Republicans campaigning on being socially moderate. Smiley Hopefully Dold will return to the House this January.

What do you mean?  The current representative is the first Democrat it had sent to Congress in over 30 years ... It would not surprise me at all if Dold wins, and I hope he does.

Pat Quinn won this district in 2010 of all years, so that tells you how partisan it is in it's reconfiguration.

I was thinking of its Cook PVI rating, at D+8 atm.

I guess I haven't really paid any attention to the specifics of the redistricting.  Either way, I could only find two polls on the race, both from September.  One had Dold in the lead by 1%, and the other had his opponent up like 5 or 6%, but it was also an internal.

The district in its current form or in an older form? The first house elections using the 'currrent' form of the district would be the 2012 house elections.

Oh, please. If anyone doesn't deserve to be attacked for partisanship it is Mark Kirk. He's consistently voted against his own party on issues of gun control, environmental regulation, abortion, and has also come out in favor of marriage equality. I'll vote to re-elect him because I have watched him represent me ever since he was elected to the House up through his time in the Senate and he isn't lying about his independence. He doesn't really give a sh** what Republicans elsewhere in the country say about him. He has always known that IL-10 and now Illinois will respect him most if he sides with constituents on issues rather than with the party leader.

/minirant

As for Dold's chances, it is a pure toss-up right now. He should be proud knowing that he is one of the few Republicans that can keep this district so close (Rodney Davis, Bobby Schilling, etc. would be getting wrecked by Schneider), but it will be hard fought. The incumbency advantage does seem to be playing for Schneider, as the district was reluctant to get rid of "one of the few rational Republicans left," as many said. Now that they have settled with Schneider, though, the district seems pretty comfortable.

It'll be a nail-biter for sure.

When he ran in 2010, his campaign line was "Dold with a d".
