I honestly don't know how anybody sane can call Snowden a traitor.

I love the partisan splits created on this.......

I'm ambivalent about Snowden, but I do think he should go back to the US and get a plea bargain.

How is that supposed to work? He's clearly "guilty," so why would the government offer him a bargain for agreeing to plead as such when he'll be convicted regardless?

To neutralize the "bomb" of potential leaks he's carrying. I doubt he'd take any plea deal that contains jail time, though.

More important, if he tries to leave Russia, the KGB will disappear him and make sure they get those secrets out of him. Honestly, leaving him unmolested in Russia may be the safest thing for everyone involved.

What else do you think he should do ?

Play Russian Roulette all day ?

I would prefer that he return to the United States, answer for his crimes, and be executed for treason.

Let's also prosecute all the people at the upper echelons of every recent administration, who regularly leak national security secrets to the media for political purposes:

Wait, you favor the death penalty, Lief?  This is news to me.

I favor it for treason, yeah.

But not for, say, a remorseless serial child racist or serial killer?

I do not support the death penalty for being racist to children.

1) Even if that's what I meant to type, you deflected to answer the second scenario.

2) Rapist*.  There.  Now please tell me how you support executing someone who exposed the NSA but not someone who rapes and murders children...

Maybe he should volunteer to do that after the US prosecutes its torturers and war criminals, starting with George W. Bush.

Why is Snowden's testimony needed? And why a plea bargain? The heads of the NSA and CIA have publicly admitted lying to Congress. Throwing them in jail should be a slam dunk, without any testimony from Snowden.

I think maybe we ought to focus on prosecuting the federal war criminals still left in our country. I suspect the crimes of Cheney and Rumsfeld far outpace the "crimes" of our friend Snowden.

Snowden should receive a full presidential pardon.

I mean, if Nixon got one, why shouldn't Snowden? At least his "crimes" were benefical to society at the end of the day.

A plea bargain, just as in this won't create a big trial and will lessen his punishment.  Snowden did some good things, but the whole point of civil disobedience is that you accept the consequences forthcoming......

I'm sure he's also getting plenty of funds from the Duma. There is no way that he didn't have ulterior motives for doing what he did.

Thats true, and I respect Chelsea Manning more than I do Snowden for taking the punishment. But I don't see anything wrong with Snowden having some fun in the meantime Tongue.
