Whoops, accidentally voted no.

It was absolutely one of my favourite things as a kid. I would beg to go every weekend.

Why are we referring to this in the past tense, or with the phrase, "as a kid"?

Because 13 year age limit.

I'm pretty sure Joe is implying--correctly--that it's still very possible to enjoy this as an adult.

It was most fun to go through it without a car.  A great way to wash my bike.

Of course.  And I don't normally (well, ever) wash my car that way now*, but I did a few times when the kids were younger just for the experience.  Though it's probably a bit scarier these days because it's so loud.  When I was kid the water was fairly low pressure and then the big rags came along and did the scrubbing....with today's "no touch" things, it's all about high water pressure.

*it's expensive and my hand does a better job anyway (opedo wouldn't agree)

Car-washes are incredibly expensive here.

Something like 12-20€ (16-25$) per wash.

That's why I mostly wash the car myself at the gas station, using this:

That's only 1-2€ and it's virtually the same thing, because it uses a high-speed Kärcher ("high-pressure cleaner") as well.

I'm only using the car wash about 2 times a year, in April and late October when I change from summer tires to winter tires and vice-versa.

But yeah, I liked it as a child.

If you didn't enjoy going through car washes as a child, you didn't have a childhood (normal).

I feel the same way. I went on youtube to see if I could find a video of the old fashioned kind with lots of touching, to show the young'uns and, of course, Oklahoma still has the old fashioned kind. I remember blue cloth instead of red, but whatever. Enjoy.

odd, my memory is of blue cloth too.  Oh and my Dad getting really pissed off at a guy for not taking his antenna off before us going through, which I found odd at the time for two reasons....one, my Dad wasn't the getting pissed off and yelling at service people kind of guy (that was my Mom) and two, it seems like that should have been Dad's responsibility.  If my memory serves, they did replace the antenna.

Every time I get a free car wash coupon I always make sure to take my son with me.  Of course, I don't often get the free coupons and I have no intention of paying eight dollars for a car wash so it doesn't happen often.  About once a year or so.  It is too loud and too claustrophobic for my tastes, but the boy really seems to enjoy it.  I guess children are into that sort of stuff.  I really can't remember if I was.  In fact, I can't remember going through any of those as a child.

Generally, if the car needs washing he and I put on our swimsuits and get a big bucket and sponges and back the car out of the garage onto the driveway and make a big game of it.  I'm pretty sure that is also what we did when I was a child, although when I was a young adult I did what Branson does.  I'd drop two quarters in the slot and get the wand out and start spraying like mad.  I did thoroughly enjoy those.

God, no. The only car wash I went through as a kid was probably the fourth-worst experience of my life I can remember.

Why is it so expensive? If you're just going through a car wash to wash the exterior and aren't doing anything to the interior, there's virtually no labor involved - the whole thing is automated. (Unless Europe is years behind the US in car wash technology.)

When I lived in Waco, there was a place where you could drive the car through the wash yourself and have the option to vacuum the inside yourself, all for $2.
