I agree with Bushie's assessment that he needs to earn about $11/hour. That's somewhere in the ballpark of what's known as a living wage. As it happens, there are also tens of millions of people who also need to make about $11/hour and have not hit that target. There are not, however, tens of millions of $11/hour jobs ripe for the plucking. You are competing against everybody else for what is available. How do expect to win the competition? Life is a helluva lot harder than school. It's sink or swim out in the world.

Bushie, living paycheck to paycheck would be a vast improvement over your current situation.  Or am I misunderstanding your final sentence? It is a confusing construction. Are you saying that you want to live paycheck to paycheck? That phrase has a very negative connotation.

Why would I apply to a job that pays, say, $9.00 over a job that pays $11-$12 that I am equally qualified for on paper?

Because you have a decent chance of retaining a $9/hour job, unlike the $11+/hour jobs that you are only qualified for on paper.

Also, once again, construction/demolition companies don't pay horribly, and they'll even hire ex-convicts, so you shouldn't have a problem getting a job.
That's hard work though. We should find him something air conditioned and comfortable.

I've seen people fatter than Bushie deliver pizzas. It really is the perfect job for him. It even pays the amount of money he requires for consideration. What's the holdup? I'll even help a bit.

Let me just say, I don't have all the answers, either, and I do value your advice, but I value constructive advice, not posts that attack my abilities.

See, you don't understand what constructive advice is. All of the advice here has been constructive. What you are looking for is for us to blindly cheer you on as you walk towards another dead end like your family/friends do when we know how it will end. You have strengths and you have weaknesses. We all do. "Thinking" about things harder or focusing harder on things doesn't always lead to success.

I don't think any Updaters want to see you fail, but you are by far your biggest enemy. Sometimes I wonder if you even read what you are saying.

I know my abilities and I am an excellent judge of my own abilities.  The forum as a whole (not all, but most) says I have no meaningful abilities, thinks I am mentally ill, thinks i am worthless to society, etc.  Or, at least that's what I get from it.
When you refuse paid employment that you could do because you think it is beneath you and, instead, watch 4 football games plus hours more of reality tv claptrap, you make yourself worthless to society.

Sure, I have bad luck on the job search... (I am a supply preacher).
1. Luck is not the issue. You've made monumentally bad choices regarding your employment status.
2. What the Inks is a supply preacher?

Bushie, you've landed more jobs than anybody I know in the real world. Finding a job is not really your problem.

FWIW, I know a woman who has been delivering pizzas for the same store for over 20 years now. You could be that woman, Bushie. You'd never have to worry about trying to push yourself up that ladder. It could be just you, your car, and the pepperonis.

On the plus side, he should be fired from the job in plenty of time to Focus on Christmas full time.

It is so much easier and so much more fun to focus on Christmas when you have a job.  The 3 months won't end until February 1.
You didn't last the full 3 months at your last job. I stand by my statement. Prove me wrong.

I have zero actual knowledge of the CADD industry, but from the way Bushie describes things, it seems standard to hire just about anybody temporarily on a 3 month trial. It doesn't sound like a usual job hire, where they make damn sure you're the right person before they offer you the job. I can see the advantages of doing things this way. It's not so crazy. And it's nice that it offers more people a chance to get a foot in the door than might be the case otherwise. Problem is, the Bushie family have a 1957 perspective on it, where "you're hired" means something very different than what is really the case. Bushie, they've allowed you an audition. Nothing more. Don't screw it up.

Bushie, being an adult is complicated. Solutions are not simple or guaranteed. Deal with it.

Glorious News! Update superfans long ago took control of the content of The Onion. We have now begun our ascent of The New York Times as well.

I think I'll read through that website once I have a few more bourbons. Can I register on their forum without any restrictions?

I recommend starting here.

A reference to Millington. Rural northern Shelby County. Not too surprising a place for this guy to visit.

The weirdest thing about that endtime site is all the stuff they have claiming global warming is a hoax. But why would people obsessed with believing the world is about to end think global warming isn't real? If anything they should cite that as more evidence. It's kind of weird to be saying "Yeah look at all these vague signs...the end is coming! Oh except global warming, that's a complete hoax and has nothing to do with the end of the world."

And unlike evolution, it's not like global warming even contradicts a truly literal reading of the Bible either. There's no reason for fundies to doubt or dispute it, unless they want to basically disbelieve all science on principle or something...which also isn't exactly Biblical either.
The organizations behind Christian fundamentalism are completely bought and paid for by conservative big money types. Religion is little more than a complex fraud handed down from the rich and powerful to the poor and gullible. Same as it ever was.

How about listening to this actual trained theologian?
This is true for all the Old Testament prophets as well. Not that anybody bothers to notice.

I doubt very much that he only eats twice a day. Just about everybody snacks at least a little bit throughout the day.
