It's funny to think what a semi-strong bench West Virginia has.

Manchin, but I actually like them all to a degree (being the grandson, nephew, and cousin of West Virginians).

I saw a list that labled Goodwin the most leftwing Senator during his stint in office-to the left of Sanders! Is that true? Can one of our WV experts prove/disprove that odd claim?

It's very true. His voting record (which for some reason isn't on GovTrack anymore) was very left.

Surprising, isn't it?

Extremely. His cousin Booth Goodwin is a well liked US Attorney who is considered a rising star. My Uncle's mother (he is married to mom's sister, but I have gotten to know a lot of members of his family through the years) lives up there and speaks highly of him.

^ To be fair, though, it's not like Goodwin served long enough to accumulate an extensive voting record.

Agreed. Normally interim Senators don't.

I would vote for Rahall in the general if he ever makes it to a national ticket.

Manchin is only one with some semblance of conviction.

I really like Joe Manchin. While he and I do not agree on everything, he's a guy who wants to get things done, and that's the kind of guy we need in office right now.

Accidentally voted for Earl Ray Tomblin, but I think Goodwin would probably be the best.

Carte Goodwin. A lot of his views aren't very clear since he wasn't in the Senate for long, but he was pretty liberal for the most part. The rest of that list is filled with pro-coal, pro-bigot Democrats who I hope would never become President.

Manchin I suppose. He seems to work well with people from across the aisle, which is a plus.

None of them.

In fact, I wouldn't vote for a Democrat from West Virginia. Especially not after how that state rejected Barack Obama because he's black.

I think no one should be taking West Virginia seriously for national Democratic candidacies.
