Not that I want the Republican to win, but what was the point of this? I thought this race was getting more competitive?

Yes, the Democratic Party is dominating because the NRCC pulled out Maine's 2nd congressional District (an already strong Democratic district).

It's D+3, not exactly overwhelming. And since everyone was saying Poliquin would win a few weeks ago, it's still a victory.

I never thought this would be a pickup. The only pickups in New England for the Republicans in Congress will be in New Hampshire.

I was surprised that people were talking this up as a pick-up possibility. I thought that died when Kevin Raye lost the primary to Polquin in the first place.

In all fairness Cain isn't that good of a fit for the district either. I honestly see her as kind of overrated and would probably lose if she wasn't facing a LePageite or a perennial candidate.

ME-2 is not your average Democratic district. It's actually a lot like a rural version of IL-3 - socially conservative, but staunchly economically liberal. Running a "mainstream Democrat" like Cain, despite her status as a rising star, hurts the party more.

Honestly, a chronic Democratic underperformer like Cain continually barely winning this seat and siphoning off Democratic money might be a better result for the GOP than a one-term rental allowing a popular Democrat to take this seat in 2016.

Yeah, it's good to see Democratic money wasted. Anyway, the NRCC's statement here apparently said they were withdrawing because Poliquin's campaign can pay for the rest himself, but I don't know if that's legit or just spin.

I don't think a triage is ever really a good thing.

Probably spin as they said the same thing for why they pulled out of Michigan-Senate.

Yeah, it probably is spin. Anyhow, I'm not too frustrated that Poliquin is probably going to lose. Republicans haven't even managed to win a House seat in the state since 1994. There are better targets elsewhere for the party.
