Yeah, it's not being repealed. That's political reality, or at least they won't be able to take away the benefits already gained.

It'll be heavily modified under a Republican President (and maybe Obama will agree to some small changes if the GOP wins the Senate 2015-2017), but I doubt it will ever fully be repealed in the near future.

I agree. It's like Social Security, Medicare etc...
We can fix it, tweak it, but we will not repeal, at least entirely.

Kasich may be finished as a potential presidential candidate. I guess the only way he wins the nomination is if there's a brokered convention or an unappealing GOP field.

Pretty confident Kasich will be out of elective politics after 2018. The OHGOP has a fantastic bench anyways.

Do they? This year, the only guy they could get to run in a governor's race that was once expected to be one of the most competitive in the country was crappy fitzgerald.

Do you mean the Ohio Dems?

No, the Democrats have a terrible bench. That's why Republicans are on track to win every statewide election this year.

Not exactly. We have pretty strong down-ballot candidates such as State Rep. Connie Pillich who does well with suburban and rural voters and State Sen. Nina Turner who does very well in GOTV among big city voters, but Fitzy's believed to be the reason why the likes of Pillich and Turner are going to lose. We've got a lot of rising stars in our state party like Whaley, Sittenfeld, Boccieri and the down-ballot statewide Dems running this year, so that's not the reason Vosem. If there's any problem our state party has, it's fundraising and getting our message out there, though the candidates sometimes do suck (such as Steve Long or David Tibbs).

You are right in saying that the OH GOP bench is strong; they're very strong. 2018 they'll have plenty of choices for Governor with the top pick being Husted, but the problem will be a likely competitive primary and/or a statewide GOP party that OH voters have grown tired of/feel is too extreme. Given that Kasich's term-limited in 2018, that's one of the many reasons why I wouldn't be shocked if he ran for President. This would be Kasich's last opportunity to run for the Presidency, especially at his age.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now for the topic at hand,

We'll know a lot better if Kasich will run or not after Nov. 4th when we find out if Walker holds on or not. If Walker wins re-election, it's very unlikely Kasich runs. Walker, unlike Kasich, has the ability to appeal to both the GOP establishment and far-right/Tea Party and Walker would assuredly get a better donor base. A lot of the Tea Party donors who backed Kasich in 2010 are having second thoughts after Kasich betrayed them, so he would be wasting his time going against a well-funded Walker.

Keep in mind to, when Kasich initially embraced Medicaid expansion last year, it was solely for political/re-election purposes to sure-up support from independents/minorities because he was initially very vulnerable. He's contradicting himself by saying he wants the ACA repealed, yet in action, he abused his separation of powers to uphold the law in the state that he says he wants repealed. In other words, I guess he's trying to have it both ways with both parts of the Republican Party, but it's failing miserably.

Either way, just like gay marriage with Christie and even Walker, it's not going to be a national issue anymore. ACA is the law of the land, and the Tea Party has pretty much given up on repealing it.

If Kasich runs, he'll probably embrace that whole Huntsman "moderate" approach to the primary rather than go the "Who can be the most conservative?" route, but it will end up getting him nowhere.

Kasich wasn't running ever. He ran for president in 2000 and from what he's said he sounds genuinely traumatised by the experience.

I wish McCrory was more like Kasich.

I would love to see Kasich/Paul or even Paul/Kasich if necessary.

Both Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney endorsed the minimum wage and correctly identified the true root cause for the loss in 2012 as being the inability to win working class voters.

John Kasich has a long record of being a fiscal conservative, being one that can also win working class conservatives and independents is an incredible asset for a general election. You can play narratives all we want but in 2014 most of the tea party candidates lost and the Republicans will be tired of being out of the White House by 2016. Medicaid expansion will not kill Kasich and neither will this statement, which is mere political reality and an acknowledgement of the need to not ingore those with lower incomes if you want to be viable.

Plus a double digit landslide in a swing state will be worth a lot as well.
