I did this for the Democrats, now fair is fair.

I excluded out the three contenders for the worst in Mordecai's threads because they damn well deserve to rest there (especially Reagan and Bush 43) for corruption, voodoo economics, and rigidity rather than reason.

That leaves the moderates. With Eisenhower taking the top by being a moderate with a vision his own, rather than just a moderate. He's the last Republican actually worth voting against a liberal or Democrat for. Only Jimmy Carter and Herbert Hoover had better, non warmongering foreign policies than him.

Bush 41 pretty much used Reagan's coattails where he could, except with foreign policy, and some domestic issues where Reagan was clearly archaic. And as a person he was an Ivy League brat and pretentious.

Ford was just kind of there, but he did manage to water-down everything after what Nixon did, and most of his stuff was good. Would've voted for him rather than Carter if he hadn't dropped Rockefeller. He was wasted potential truly.

So yeah I go for Eisenhower, Ford, then  Bush 41.

With that fire away.

There are good reasons to pick any of the three, but the easiest case, IMHO, is for Ike.

Ford is immediately eliminated for his pardoning of Nixon and letting inflation run rampant (remember "Whip Inflation Now"?). Also, his two progeny were easily the worst high-level public servants in American political history.

That leaves Ike and Bush 41. Both were fairly decent, but Ike edges out Bush for his handling of the Korean War, his progress on race integration, and for the preservation of Roosevelt's New Deal.

Eisenhower, though they're all good.

Is it really that hard to make a poll you want everyone to vote in and refrain from being blatantly biased?

Huh  Ford had four children and none of them were politicians - not that it would matter to his presidency if they were.

Ike of course.
