According to the Washington Post, Angus King would consider switching which party he caucuses with depending on the perks the Republican party might offer him if they take control of the Senate this year.

No. This is like the third time this cycle this rumor has been revived.

They'd be better off trying to switch Manchin.

If it's GOP 49, Dem 50, Angus will have everyone's balls in a meat grinder.

Hm, this is the first time I heard about this rumor, but who knows, if the GOP has a Senate majority, King could be opportunistic enough to want to switch just because he can have more influence as a senator. I will concede that his conditions for switching seem like they would be difficult to fulfill. A senator doesn't just waltz in to become a committee chairman.

As for Manchin, he seems highly unlikely to switch parties anyway, so maybe this entire discussion just shows how unlikely it would be for a senator to leave one party for another these days.

No he wouldn't.  Even if King caucuses with the GOP, Joe Biden would just be permanently camped in D.C. to break ties.  It's GOP 50, Dem 49 where King's votes matter most.  Caucusing with the GOP would get them to 51.  Caucusing with Democrats would cause Biden to break ties.

Orman says on his website that he would coordinate with other independent senators (presumably King) and then caucus together with the majority party.

So, if Orman wins, he will caucus with the GOP as well.

This is why Moderate Heroes need to be purged and sent to Vorkuta.

If Orman wins, King picks the Democrats. A situation where King is the deciding vote requires Roberts to hold.

This is pretty irrelevant. Despite King Angus's bluster, the only scenario in which he would caucus with Republicans would be one in which they already control the Senate regardless of his vote.

Why shouldn't someone elected statewide pledge to act in a way that maximizes their state's power in a body? It's as good as any other pledge a candidate might make.

The only scenario in which switching would be worthwhile for King is the R-50, D-49 scenario where King is the deciding vote. The  Republicans would probably offer him a nice deal then. If the Republicans control the senate without needing him, then sure, he'll get better committee assignments if he caucuses with the party in power, but he'd probably be better off just waiting it out and hoping democrats retake the senate in 2016. He can't get away with multiple party switches, oscillating back and forth whenever Senate control changes. Both parties would eventually just disown him.

I seriously doubt King would switch. He's too liberal; it wouldn't make any sense for him to be in the Republican caucus. Plus he'd piss people off and be seen as a flip-flopper. And the Republicans aren't going to let him jump seniority and become the head of some high profile committee.
