Neel Kashkari donned a baseball cap, hoodie, and jeans, and hopped on a Greyhound bus from Los Angeles to Fresno with $40 in his pocket, a change of clothes, and a sleeping bag. His mission: make a 10-minute video of homeless life in Fresno, and living on the streets for a week in a last-ditch effort to try and blame the whole thing on Jerry Brown. He slept in parks and on city benches, and ate at food banks and homeless shelters with cameras following him around as he looked for under-the-table work.

This video does not persuade me to change my endorsement in this race, it simply shows me that Neel Kashkari has a bigger name recognition problem than I thought.

> has only $40 to his name
> buys a footlong subway sandwich

But seriously, this is the worst thing any candidate for office has ever done.

Why? It is at least an original move.

Probably not the best campaign video in the world. It's not like it will actually sway anybody either way, though.

Everyone involved with the TARP bailout should actually become homeless.

Sorry, Kashkari, but this won't win you a single vote.

As it is, it doesn't really matter who becomes governor, since the legislature currently has enough democrats that can it pass stuff without any republican votes or gubernatorial approval.

Sorry, Kashkari, but this won't win you a single vote.

As it is, it doesn't really matter who becomes governor, since the legislature currently has enough democrats that can it pass stuff without any republican votes or gubernatorial approval.

I'd say there's a 50-50 chance Democrats will lose their supermajority this year in at least one of the houses. It's just hard to tell because no one really knows what's going on in some of these districts. In the Senate, two Republicans are potentially very vulnerable, and the suspended and vacant Democratic seats are one big "WTF." I'd say about three or four assembly Democrats are vulnerable, and that will be the big test of if having Brown at the top really helps.

If a Republican, for whatever reason, is elected governor, I'd comfortably assume some of those legislature seats would flip, and Dems would lose their supermajority. Depending on who is governor, if someone with the same "quasi-centrist, but really liberal sometimes when he's in the mood" ideology as Brown was elected who wasn't Brown, there's a chance they would get steamrolled by their own party. But just because Brown is Brown, and he vetoes a lot of the really liberal bills coming from the legislature, they kind of just suck it up. So it moderately matters who is governor, but you're right, with the way this election is shaping up, it likely really won't.

That's genuinely offensive.

I guess he felt like losing by 20 points wasn't enough.

Considering he is running in 2014 California, he has no chance of winning. Might as well just have some fun.

Being homeless and trying to live a week on $40 is fun?

If Kashkari genuinely wishes to connect with the downtrodden, I commend him. But sadly the current state of politics in America forces me to believe that it's all a show.

I remember seeing this when he did it back in July.  How is this only news now?

I was more talking about him making an ass of himself.
