Any reason why white Californians are more conservative than whites from other heavily democratic states?

Is it? Remember it used to be rather Republican, the trends here are in part due to the minority population increasing.

I'd say it's probably down to Southerners emigrating to California during the Depression era, and their values being maintained throughout history.
