I'm not really sure how it could be anything else.  The economy was still doing well in 2006 IIRC when the Democrats won the House and Senate.

Could be Katrina, it seems to me the light wasn't seen by the non leftists until after Katrina despite the way being botched pretty much from day 1...he got re-elected for goodness sake! Despite Democratic approval pretty much mirroring or possibly even worse than Obama's numbers among the GOP.

I still voted for the Iraq War,but it's certainly not the only reason.

True, Katrina was where on the most partisan Republican hacks could defend Bush. I had read years before that NOLA was highly vulnerable to a hurricane. There was an earlier hurricane that I remember thankfully missing NOLA. I remember reading one Friday that Katrina was a very strong (Cat 5?) hurricane and its path would hit NOLA in 3 days. It was obvious that it going to be a huge disaster. What did Bush do? The same thing he did for 9/11, ignore the issue. He decided to celebrate McCain's birthday instead. No one could have predicted that Bush would lie about no one predicting the levees failing.

I still remember that Green Day video based on "what if all armed forces in Iraq were immediately deployed back home to rescue and help Katrina victims".

Probably launching an unprovoked, full-scale invasion of a stable country in an unstable region.
