It's important to remember that not all sports are contact sports, and that they teach teamwork and self reliance. Swimming is a sport.

As to high school football, though, come on, that's not going anywhere. In fact, it's the reverse - youth football and USA Football is booming. A friend of mine has a son in 3rd grade who plays O-line. The vast majority of people, myself and my friends included, who played football did so with the knowledge that injury is possible. Football was "controversial" before now. A lot of parents pushed their kids into baseball because it was not a contact sport. Tongue I didn't have the reflexes for baseball.
