Everyone appears to be registered citizens of the Northeast, with the exception of Talleyrand, whose Senate vote still applies for the NE contest due to moving less than one week before its commencement. Peeperkorn was an oversight on my part.

Is it ironic that earlier today I was watching the National Geographic documentary on the 2000s, which began with none other than Florida? Wink

Holy hell. So rpryor won, by one preference, in a tiebreaker count caused by a vote that was literally twenty seconds before the deadline.

This has to be the closest election in the history of Atlasia.

There were, ironically, three Labour second preferences that counted for rpryor in the tiebreaker - brought down by my own party Tongue.

I'll go through the results later to see if I spot anything else that might affect the results...

But unless anyone else spots anything else, congratulations rpryor. Smiley

This reminds me of the SE LG election in February 2010. We had a voting system where you could vote for both candidates and the cumulative number of votes was the vote total used to determine the winner.

      A       B
1    X
2    X       X
3    X       X
5    X
6             X

Candidate A wins 4-3 over candidate B.

I got TB75 to run a write-in bid and  several Deldem voters had preferenced both, but fewer tb75 voters had also voted for Deldem so Deldem lost by 1 vote thanks to JCP voters double preferencing.

Isn't the policy for a federal senate election to hold a runoff if both the candidates are tied in the final round (which in this case would be the first)? That's what was going to happen in February 2014 between TNF and Lumine until the latter conceded.

Either way, congratulations to both candidates on a great effort. I'm sure either one will do a good job.

Yes, I would imagine this portion of CESRA (unless it has been amended and the Wiki is lying?) would apply. I can't believe I forgot about the Lumine-TNF debacle.

I would assume so, since we don't have any designated election procedure for a special regional senate election other than the federal guidelines.

I've been operating under the Northeast Clarity Act's premises, assuming that the wording applies to all elections in the Northeast.

Assuming Regions are allowed to create election laws for Regional Senate elections (in addition to Assembly elections which the bill was originally made for), I believe the Northeast Electoral Clarity Act also applies here, meaning a win by most 2nd preferences is legit.

For a SPECIAL election, I think you are probably correct.  Article I, Section 4, Clause 4 of the Atlasian Constitution states: "Any vacancy occurring in a Class A Senate seat shall be filled according to the laws of the respective region."  So the laws of the Northeast regarding vote counting should theoretically govern.

I could see the counterargument and a lawsuit, though.  Since the CJO's office is vacant, it would probably need to be filed in the Atlasian Supreme Court.

I still say the vote from HockeyDude should not have been counted for making commentary in the voting booth, not campaigning, but stating  something other than a vote.

But whatever.  Suit yourself.

Very well then. I will be appointing JoMCaR to replace Castro2020 in the Assembly.

I also will be appointing cinyc to the vacant office of Chief Judicial Officer.

I agree with you. The NE laws should govern. So is there a NE law imposing a minimum voting requirement (like 10 posts in the  8 previous months?)
If there is no law imposing a minimum voting requirement, Pessimistic Antonio, Peeperkorn and the Socialist avatar from Maine should have been counted, and so Clyde should have won by 1.

And maybe Talleyrand's vote shouldn't be counted as well?
So it would be a tie again:
Clyde (15): A person, Griffin, Eraserhead, Poirot, Lief, Clyde, Blair, Peeperkorn, Castro, Pikachu, DemPGH, Bore, Hockeydude, Polnut, 84250

Rpryor (15): RGN, DKrolga, rpryor, NHI, cinyc, Jomcar, twistory, Winfield, Pessimistic, Autumnleaf, smoltchanov, mattrose, dallas, sawx, mattVT

So according to sawx??? Second preferences:
Clyde: rgn, cinyc, jomcar, winfield, Pessimistic Antonio, smoltchanov, Mattrose (7)
Rpryor: griffin, poirot, peeperkorn, pikachu, Dempgh, bore, polnut(7)

There is a tie in second preference???

So what's going on?

There is no reason not to count my vote. I moved less than a week before the booth opened so it's valid. In addition, we have precedent for this in a Northeast Senate Special Election. In July 2013, DemPGH moved to the Pacific less than a week before the booth opened and his vote for Bore was counted.

According to you: This booth will open on July 9 at 23:59:59 EST and close on July 12 at 23:59:59 EST - voting before this time will invalidate your ballot.

So are you sure???
