The fact is that a woman or a black or Hispanic person with his work history, industriousness and general ambition would be slogging away at a minimum wage job and living in squalor. Bushie had a college degree handed to him and squandered it. He had a career certification handed to him and squandered it. He has an entire furnished apartment that he doesn't even live in. He considers minimum wage jobs to be beneath his dignity. And he firmly believes that he is entitled to all of this and far more. When it is brought to his attention that others with far fewer opportunities than him must struggle far more, he dismissively responds, "Life is not fair."

Yes and no.

Most whites in Oklahoma do not get the breaks Bushie's gotten.  Most Okies don't have college degrees and often work very hard to make ends meet. 

I agree the situation would be different for a black/Hispanic Bushie on average, but then again, Bushie is just being Bushie and he likely wouldn't be like this if things weren't handed to him.  He's not a representation of anything big, unless you count unsuccessful lazy people.

To answer the question though, I agree it has more to do with his family. But it does provide some explanation for Bushie's feelings of entitlement to things like his ultimate cable package, or having slacks tailored for him instead of buying some at a thrift store.

Of course Bushie is the personification of white male privilege, but with his self awareness and relatively clear understanding of the situations around him he may just be the personification of evil itself - the very Lucifer that rebelled against God and caused all of the pain and suffering in the world.  His careful disguise is not just for us, but also for his family members, who probably see him as very devout and as such in continual need of charity.

Yea.  A black or brown in OKie with his resume and weight wouldn't be getting hired anywhere for anything outside of McD and call centers.
