If Jason ran for president his family would clearly be a burden.
But he's running for governor in a state where his grandpa won twice in a landslide.
So, can Carter be glad about his surname?

To be honest, Carter was a horrible President but has cultivated a great image in the past 30+ years (and rightfully so) for his humanitarian work. I think it evens out and gives him no clear advantage or disadvantage.

Jimmy Carter has a 61% favorability rating in Georgia among RVs; 52% among seniors. 86% among Democrats, 51% among independents and 40% among Republicans. The people who don't like Jimmy are the same people who wouldn't vote for Jason, anyway.

^^^ People from out of state usually don't understand how popular Jimmy remains in Georgia. Beyond his obvious qualities and good traits, there's something to be said for southern loyalty to a native son.

If nothing else, it helps his name recognition.

Most likely helps. Though ineffective in the late-1970s, his humanitarian image is more prevalent when you consider how many more people were born too late to remember much of his Presidency.

On a similar not, I wonder if the fact that Cory Gardner looks like a minority helps him in Colorado...? I seriously thought he was of Hispanic, Asian, or Native American descent, possibly combined with white. But au contraire, he's full-white.

Georgia was Cater's best state in '76 and '80, of course it helps!
