I agree in spirit, though like most liberal ideas, affirmative action is a rather feeble palliating solution.
Yeah, I guess this is actually more or less my position. I believe that everyone should be guaranteed a job the minute they complete their education, but I also believe that affirmative action should be used to guarantee women and minorities are equally represented in those positions.
Right--my main issue with "affirmative action" in practice is its failure to take class into account (which
may hypothetically lead to wealthier blacks and Latinos having greater access to assistance than poorer whites or Asians), not with the idea of redressing historical discrimination itself (as I am not a racist). Of course, that would require an acknowledgement by policymakers that class exists.
