In what elections would the president and vice president have been from a different party?

What would the 2004 vice presidential election map have looked like?

1968: Nixon/Muskie

In 1972 Nixon and Muskie become the first President and Vice President to run against each other since 1800.

Had it come so far, Al Gore could have made himself vice-president in 2000, as president of the senate.

Bentsen would have won by a landslide in 1988.  And Lieberman in 2000.

Bentsen did seem more intelligent and less confused than Dukakis, but I don't see a landslide.  The same applies to a lesser degree to Lieberman and Gore.  He might have won, but not in a landslide.

You mean 1968 with Nixon and Humphrey.

No, Muskie was the VP nominee in 1968.  So if Nixon and Muskie won, then he's saying they would run against each other in 1972.

If I had been living at the time, not looking back in retrospective, I would have voted:

1960: Kennedy/Lodge (I would've have thought LBJ to be a Dixiecrat)
1964: Johnson/Humphrey
1968: Humphrey/Muskie
1972: McGovern/Shriver (I'm not sure about this one)
1976: Carter/Mondale
1980: Anderson/Mondale
1984: Mondale/Bush (I don't think Ferraro was experienced enough)
1988: Dukakis/Bentsen
1992: Clinton/Gore
1996: Clinton/Gore
2000: Gore/Lieberman
2004: Kerry/Edwards

Was Edwards much more experienced than Ferraro?

She had served 5 years in the House. You do the math. Smiley

Ironically, she was a trial lawyer.
