Yeah, but Schumer or Durbin might replace Reid after 2016.

Well, Reid has been a Democratic leader for almost ten years now and it's possible he can choose step down or be forced to do so (perhaps due to bad results for Senate Democrats, including possibly losing majority, or simple fatigue).

McConnell (a Republican leader for a decade as well) can still lose reelection (personally I'm sure he won't, but the race is not "safe" by any means) or face Tea Party uprising within the ranks, even if GOP wins a majority.

Gun to my head, I'd predict that in 2017 it'll be Durbin at the head of the caucus. Not confident enough to predict what circumstances would lead to Reid leaving the post, however.

Republicans; Still Mitch McConnell

Democrats; Reid moves to DSCC so he can funnel money into his re-election campaign (against Sandoval he'll need it), He's replaced by Chuck Schumer (Though I can see Pat Leahy or Elizabeth Warren making a bid for the post as well)

Republicans: If McConnell loses, probably Cornyn. Otherwise still McConnell
Democrats: Still Reid, although Schumer or Durbin could step in on a 'until Nov. 2016' basis while Reid fights off Sandoval, then let Reid go back to leading. If Reid loses to Sandoval, then probably Durbin or Schumer gets the post (for as long as they like), provided neither of them wants to retire soon. If not them, maybe Warren, or perhaps a dark horse (Blumenthal/Feinstein/Gillibrand?)

Can't happen, you aren't allowed to be the head of the DSCC if you are running for re-election that cycle.

I don't see Sandoval running against Reid - I presume they have a gentleman's agreement that he won't, given Reid's influence in the state Democratic party and the party's lack of a campaign against Sandoval

Let's all hope Reid finally loses his re-election bid in 2016, 6 years overdue.
Schumer seems to be next in line.

McConnell will stay at the helm of Senate Republicans for the next 6 years.

McConnell and Reid most likely.
