Hard to compare. Ten, twenty years ago? Obviously. But these days it might not be. Thing is Australia is a fair bit more left-wing (though we are getting an ugly radical element) than the States.....

Any state in Australia is less conservative than South Dakota.

Is he actually in VA now? If so, then yes.

(Still in Washington, BTW)

Hard choice...I'm gonna say yes, since you guys have Joni Ernst now, whereas we only had Santorum 8 years ago. Tongue

Assuming Washington as his state, it depends. Washington has legal weed and all that, so clearly more liberal on marijuana policy. But New York got gay marriage first (even with a Republican governor, Andrew Cuomo), and liberal Democrats routinely get 60-70+% of the vote whereas Washington state has been considered competitive in certain races.

Barack Obama won New York State over extreme right-winger Mitt Romney with 63.35% to 35.17%, a Dem margin of 28.18%. Whereas Obama only won Washington state with 55.80% to 41.03%, a Dem margin of 14.77%.
