Looks like Alaska is joining the sanity island in this race.
Now even Palin can see the sanity island from her house.

I'm rather confused. I thought Walker was the de facto D in this race, but if he was endorsed by Palin, what does that make him? Is it just a weird grudge by Palin or something, or is Walker to the right of Parnell?

Walker's fairly conservative, but leans a bit communitarian. He's pro-life, pro-gun, somewhat anti-gay marriage, anti-marijuana, but also supports accepting expanded Medicaid dollars, is against vouchers, supports expanding higher ed funding, etc. See here.

Why is Shumlin fighting for his life?

Won't really matter. The legislature will bail him out

Don't question it, just be happy an incumbent Republican besides Corbett is losing. Tongue

Well, the important thing is that he should get the plurality. The Democratic legislature did bail out the Republican plurality winner in 2002.

I guess you could say it's more that Palin is to the "left" of Parnell on the main issue here, which is taxation of oil profits.

In the other yet-to-be decided governors races:

CO: Beauprez (R) leads Hickenlooper (D) by about 5,000 votes with 89% in. (Most votes are out in Boulder and Denver, which is good for the incumbent Democrat).

CT: Malloy (D) leads Foley (R) 50-49 (about 15,000 votes) with 73% in.

Per the congressional thread, this was mainly Mat-Su, which is of course heavily Republican.

Denver Post calls it for Hickenlooper!

And Foley says he's probably lost in CT.

Foley whatever. Hick really? I thought most of Denver was in and Beauprez was still ahead

Most of the vote that's out in Colorado is out in Denver and Boulder.

Foley is likely going to lose in CT. He's losing and traditionally, the cities report last.

Went through the various downballot races - wow, total carnage. Please tell me I'm wrong, but the only statewide Dem getting elected in a non-Obama state appears to be the AK Lt. Gov guy, who is on a ticket with Walker. Future statewide elections get even tougher...

Was out for most of the day, so I'll post my thoughts on the races now:

  • I did not see the MD or MA results coming, but then again, who did?
  • Well done to Walker, LePage (nice swing to LePage), Brownback, Kasich (that's what I call a win!), Martinez, and Haley in particular on their re-election.
  • Great job in AR and IL, well done Hutchinson and Rauner!
  • I guess the main focus now is on CO (come on Beauprez!) and AK.
  • Corbett may have lost, but you can't win them all.

All in all, I'm ecstatic about the gubernatorial results!

Interesting to see the extent to which the competitiveness of a gubernatorial race drove the turnout: Both candidates in Florida got more votes than the winners in California and Texas!

Hickenlooper is now ahead with the rest of the remaining votes still out in Boulder/Denver and the suburbs (which Hick is winning). Hickenlooper survives the tsunami

Hickenlooper finally overtakes Beauprez by 2,000 votes with 91% in.

Per Fox, the SoS will stop counting ballots shortly and start over in the morning.

Alaska up to 85.7% of the vote in. Walker (I) leads Parnell (R) by about 2,500 votes (about 1.2%)

Pretty much everyone saw MA coming. Actually, Coakley kept it closer than expected really.
