Good to hear that the EU is taking a hard line with this nonsense. If the UK wants to turbo-charge their decline into international economic and political irrelevance by leaving the EU, let them go ahead.

but British culture and independence and why do you hate the queen!?!?

I do genuinely feel bad for Cameron on this; who has to put up a giant charade of obstinacy to amuse his backbechers, but at the same time turn to business and say "look guys, I'm only faking really".

I am so not looking forward to the inevitable EU referendum.

I've always found this argument very amusing, given that we genuinely would be irrelevant internationally were we to become part of a United Europe.

Anyway, bring it on Merkel. It'll be fun watching you get set upon by the rabble (Podemos, SYRIZA and the like) that several of your EU partners seem likely to elect in the not too distant future.

British hypocrisy over the internal-EU migration issue is a little... embarrassing...

Oh yeah, most of us haven't forgotten that UK has always been the greatest supporter of expanding EU, did they expect that East Europeans wouldn't migrate west?

Of course another aspect is that UK can easily limit the number of EU migrants, by demanding that people migrating to UK (at least th first few years they stay in Britain) can only stay there if they work, study or have a partner doing one of these things, that how the rest of Northern EU deal with internal migrants, but no, for some reason they need to break the basic agreement of free movement with quotas.

It's an open secret the UK only ever joined the EU in order to keep a lid on it.

No it's a common myth, yes UK work to limit European integration, but they joined EU because they needed the access to and influence on the European markets EU gave. It hurt UK that they wasn't part of EEC even more than it would hurt them to be outside it today. Of course because they joined it only for economic reasons they today work to limit the political integration aspect of the project. Ironic pro-integrationist like Blair and Brown was more successful in that than Thatcher ever were or Cameron is today.

If the UK were to exit the EU, would it be possible for them to join the EFTA?

If the UK does leave the EU, would that bring them closer to the US?

If the UK does leave the EU, pro-independence sentiments will skyrocket in Scotland.

No need to remind you that whatever the UK stays in the Eu or not, if Greece, Spain go bankruptcy, we all fall...
