To me his binary thinking isn't funny and when he is funny I doubt he tries to be. Just a matter of taste I guess b

Memphis is objectively one of the worst posters here.

memphis is a staggeringly terrible poster in general but that post did make me chuckle.

Incorrect.

But you guys are all religious, so I can understand why you would subjectively think so.

Funny enough, I was honestly going to say in my original post that simply because you're not religious doesn't mean he's a great poster. Wink And I don't think Grumps is religious.

Even if he isn't one of the worst (and trust me, he is), he is in no way great.

I mean, admittedly, when it comes to memphis, if I shared his, well, views--and I mean the full extent of them, not just the fact that he's an atheist--I'd probably feel a sense of affinity with him and desire to defend him too. I doubt Grumps shares said views to the same extent that Joe does.

Other than religion, the only other issue I can think of that Memphis would upset anybody over is gender issues, and we all know that Grumps is far worse than him on that.

He's generally unpleasant and condescending, which means a lot coming from an unpleasant and condescending individual such as myself.

A lot of mine is, admittedly, hyperbole to get the prudes fired up.  Memphis has never employed that technique. It's just 1 0 0 1.

That is the other reason why he is gross and horrible, yes. I could figure out without having to be told that Grumps says the nasty and otherwise questionable things about gender issues that he does because he thinks a lot of us are self-righteous pious sticks-in-the-mud and wants to rib us for it. Not a way I particularly like to be treated, personally, but it doesn't gravely bother or offend me either. memphis, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have any tendency towards that sort of subtlety, or playfulness to be honest, and appears to say what he says because his views genuinely are that rebarbative. And really, as for the first reason, I hardly think one has to be religious oneself to think that the degree to which memphis is antireligious and the kind of rhetoric that he uses to discuss the subject (in the past I've responded mostly to his sweeping and oversimplifying generalizations but I think the language of disease that he sometimes uses is actually a lot more disconcerting than the generalizations could ever be) go a lot further than is really reasonable.

I'd bother to respond, but:

(a) I can't quite tell when you're going to stop editing your post (or deleting and reposting it) for long enough for me to do so.
(b) I didn't really read it, tbh.
(c) This is meant to be the comedy goldmine.
(d) I just don't care enough.
(e) It's Christmas Eve.

given the lack of funny in this thread since you posted this, this was a self-fulfilling prophecy.

As with so much else that I'm anal about, just wait twenty minutes or so and it's generally a safe bet that my mind has wandered elsewhere.

Sigged. Merry Christmas.

And people say Tweed isn't one of our best posters:

Hang in there H.W., we may need to draft you against the witch in 2016.

if Jeb does get the nomination this GHWB mortality question provides an interesting little sub-plot:

a) first, he must remain alive for another 18 or 19 months, not just as a technically-alive bedridden vegetable, but alive enough to sit in a wheelchair and understand the basic aspects of his surroundings.  those great minds who choreograph the Republican convention can draw up a plan for a brief GHWB cameo.

first, circulate some rumors about his health.  leak to the press, that GHWB his some good days and bad, but remains sharp as a tack, aware and proud of his son's campaign.  imagine, someone wheeling him out to the convention stage, on  primetime TV.  Barbara should do the wheeling if she can; if not, give the honor to GWB, assuming they can verify that his very image is not as toxic as it was in 2008-2009.

Papa Bush wheels out, the crowd goes wild.  give him a few basic lines.  "I am so Blessed to be here."  (pause, roll a tear down his face).  "God bless you all, and God Bless America."  he waves, remains on stage for another 30-45 seconds, then gets wheeled backstage.

though he's not a venerated figure, not even on the level of what Ted Kennedy was for the Dems in 2008, the play-act is still worth trying.

2) a GHWB death has serious potential as rather perverse "October surprise".  it could be arranged easily enough - I won't give suggestions on how to bring it about, but I'm sure these Royal families can control the contents of a family member's autopsy and death certificate, even if the corpse is leaking arsenic.  have it all go down in Kennebunkport, just to be super-safe.

a state funeral is held just a few weeks before the election, and Jeb is given the honor of eulogizing his father.

an added bonus: the Dems can't go negative for the last few weeks of the campaign, lest they appear callous and insensitive to Jeb's grief.  public hostility towards the Bush family recedes into the background.

oh, Lee Atwater would be salivating over this one!

I don't plan on playing against any football team this January but will forward this warning along to anyone who is.
