Men who aren't liberal tend to view the Democrats as p*****s.

Thus, they don't vote for us, even when it's in their clear best interest. We have to change that perception somehow.

The usual, poor turnout and Democrats running away from their own accomplishments.

Trying not to get Obama to cancel the election.

Anyway the vote fell, it was going bad, they really only underestimated the severity of how bad it would be.

Citizens United has transformed America into a pure and absolute plutocracy.

Being tied to a president with a 42% approval rating for one.

In too many cases it seems to have been complacency.

Because they are cowards that run from their accomplishments and don't stand for liberal ideals that can actually help people.  Turnout was putrid.  When the people don't vote the monied interests will.

Prepare to go underground in 2017, because the fix is already being planned at Koch Industries.

Thinking that policy is more important than salesmanship. Same as it ever was.

Would Pres. Clinton have prevented the GOP gains with white voters in 2010 and 2014? I'd imagine she is less scary to the type of voter Democrats need to win over to get swing and red states. Even if she would lose states like WV tying blue dogs to her wouldn't be as effective even if she had the same low 40's approval like Obama.

They made no effort to rally their base, gave swing voters no reason to vote for them, made no effort to defend themselves from dishonest and manipulative campaign tactics, and did nothing to prevent this massive impending curb-stomping. The party needs to be burnt to the ground and rebuilt from scratch.

Also, to the OP: You, and every other progressive in that sinking ship of a state need to start thinking of how to get the fuck out of North Carolina as quickly as possible. I see nothing but bad things down the road in that state for the rest of the decade.

For the relative underperformance of Democrats in Senate races, I think one very underrated factor might have been Harry Reid scorched earth approach.

For example:

Reid made impossible for moderate Democrats to actually build a moderate record - or something that could be sold as that. Made some sense till 2012, to protect Obama from having to sign vetos, but I'm not sure why he kept doing it in the last 2 years. The Landrieus and Warners stopped having any stage to show off their moderate credentials.

Actually, after listening to him tonight, I suspect the only way Joe Manchin doesn't switch parties is if he decides not to run for re-election.

No, I suspect sexism would have kept those results similar.

They "went wrong" (which I take to mean: when did it become likely they would do poorly in the 2014 elections) when they won the presidency in 2008 and passed a few major left-of-center bills.

Yes. But is there any solution to turnout? They were at least aware of that problem this time yet it got no better.

She'd do worse with minority males. Trust me, if Hillary was President now, and Obama wasn't, Obama would be the one with better favorability ratings.

It's like 2010 except

- Geography was a lot worse than in 2010
- Republicans chose strong candidates, not jokes

You think the 70 year old liberal woman in your signature in 2016 will do that?
