With regards to Virginia? Not sure what's this with Politico, but Vox Populi (the pollster) definitely deserves one.

Not really. I don't think anyone could imagine Gillepsie doing that well, and I can't fathom what information Politico had that everyone else had.

Gillespie has to win, but he has been the one I've seen who said it was even close.  Tip of the hat to you.

In hindsight, one should have expected the race to be competitive; the fundamentals were there, including the Gov race cautionary tale. I was always puzzled by how polls were showing such larger leads to Warner -hence why, as you correctly point out, nobody could have imagined Gillespie doing so well (except Vox Populi and only to some extent)- and ended up assuming Gillespie running an awful campaign. I remember writing a comment about him being one of the weakest candidates of the year in some VA poll thread for that reason!

The Dems will hold on to the Virginia Senate seat (close race!).

If you ignore the disparity in some states, regarding how close the elections should have been (according to poll data), and only look at who won and lost (Dem or Rep), then most websites had it about right. Everything that happened tonight was in the window of possibility.

With one exception ..... North Carolina. Most websites were leaning for this state to go to the Dems.
And if Alaska goes Democratic, then that will be the only other exception. (Most websites are leaning for this state to go to the Reps. We will soon find out.)

Politico is still a right-wing hack site even if they accidentally got this one sort of right.

Politico's promotion of Gilespie had more to do with establishment back-scratching than any insight into how the race would turn out.

Politico is still an awful clickbait site that offers no real insights and any time they are right about it something it's mere coincidence.
