The popularity of cable news has made people more informed but also more stupid. They know what's going on, who the political personalties are, etc but the facts are twisted and distorted in ways that properly outrage them to maintain TV ratings. Politics is more national now than ever and the south especially isn't going to vote for President black man's "Democrat" Party, no matter how strong the candidates are or how much they actually try to cater to their local needs.
