Girl could barely win in a district that was R+17, in Utah in 2014!

Not unless they get Doug Owens to run again.

She will hold.  I was a fairly good year for African-American Republicans.

No.

She will prove her worth as an effective member of Congress and be rewarded with re-election.

She already intends  to shake up Congress.

From Wikipedia

She has said that if elected to Congress, she would “join the Congressional Black Caucus and try to take that thing apart from the inside out” and has described the Democrat-dominated Caucus as characterized by “...demagoguery. They sit there and ignite emotions and ignite racism when there isn’t. They use their positions to instill fear. Hope and change is turned into fear and blame. Fear that everybody is going to lose everything and blaming Congress for everything instead of taking responsibility."

Maybe. As I've been saying for many, many years, the virulent racism of the morman cult should not be under-estimated. I believe the results in UT-04 last night once and for all vindicate my position.

She also didn't run a good campaign - as some recall, she was already hemorrhaging money way early on, before Matheson decided to bow out of the race. I think Matheson spoke too soon - he would've easily won this year.

Or maybe Doug Owens is the greatest candidate ever and we just didn't notice it.

Yeah, I wish Matheson hadn't retired so early. He may not have won easily, but he would have probably won.

Is the Mayoralty of Salt Lake open anytime soon?

This. She also has a habit of performing poorly in the debates, which could also have hurt her performance.

I'm not sure which you're referring to, but both Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County's mayorships are held by democrats. Salt Lake City's next mayoral election is in 2015, and will likely be an open race, while the County Mayor election is in 2016, and will likely have incumbent Ben McAdams running for his second term.

I have no clue. I mean Ben McAdams is our best shot - maybe Owens could do it again too, but this isn't entirely hopeless. I don't think she stays in past 2020.

Owens did seem like something of a dark horse candidate this cycle. If he runs again in 2016, it's doubtful Love will survive, especially since there isn't decreased turnout or a Mormon Presidential candidate at the top of the ballot to give her a boost - but who knows at this point.

McAdams could be a good candidate - energizing left-wing voters while still appealing to moderates, but he needs a good campaign and more name recognition before he's ready to do this.

The seat's PVI should swing back big to Democrat's with no Mormon at the top of the ticket for 2016. It's clear Matheson would've won handily  had he ran again.

I think Love's underperformance(s) were more about perceptions of her as a lightweight national celebrity candidate than racism.

If that's true, her fortunes in 2016 rest entirely on how she behaves the next two years: if she focus on the district, gets a firmer grasp on the issues and provides good constituency services, she'll win; if she prioritizes talk-radio appearances and throwing red meat at movement conservatives, she'll be vulnerable.

Your statement is patently ridiculous.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) is probably the fastest growing Christian religion in the world.

It was no doubt mostly Mormons who elected the first Republican black woman to the U.S. Congress, and racists are not going to be voting for a black person, man or woman.

Mormon voters and Mia Love made history.

Her name may be Mia Love but Mormons love Mia.

Run Doug Owens again, have Jim Matheson at some top of the ticket race, and have a non-offensive Dem like Hillary running for President and Owens could win a squeaker.

But most likely it'll be uncomfortable narrow Love victories for eternity.

Nope, the first Haitian-American elected to Congress. Remember, you liberals love distinctions like that!

Have you ever considered, good sir, that this is likely the first opportunity they have had of sending a black woman to Congress?  Had they had that opportunity a century ago no doubt they would have elected her then.

Not to nit pick, but this is the 21st century.

Thank you for the distinction.

I am very pleased with the people of Utah, Mormons and non-Mormons alike, for electing the first Haitian-American woman to Congress.

I don't think she lose.  I also think she'll probably be a statewide or national candidate one day.

She strikes me as a moron.  That seems to be the pattern for female or minority GOP candidates sadly.

Republicans, who supposedly hate affirmative action, find these mediocre politicians like Sarah Palin, Marco Rubio or Mia Love and promote them to prove that they're not racist or sexist.  Sorry Republicans, the fact that you promote these token minorities only proves that you have low expectations of anyone who isn't a white man.
