I have to imagine running for Governor in 2016 is looking a lot more attractive, though.

This is not a big surprise by any means. What kind of idiot would switch political affiliations just because it becomes beneficial-

Oh, right.

And Manchin confirms to be the biggest idiot in history.

Completely useless for the Democratic majority and now completely useless for Republicans. A complete joke Senator. West Virginia would be wise  to vote him out.

Anyone who's not delusional already knew that, even more than being a father, husband, brother, and public servant, Joe Manchin is first and foremost a Democrat.

Not to derail the thread, but you might as well ask, will Angus King "switch parties"?

It's difficult to deny that Maine Republicans have to been to some extent invigorated and vindicated. For, you know, some reason.

A lot of right-wing Democrats probably won't switch now just because the Republicans who ran against them were so nasty.

There's a far-right-wing Democrat in Kentucky named Jim Gooch who beat everyone's expectations by winning by 20 points. I'd be surprised if he switched (if he hasn't by now), because his opponent was nasty.

I wouldn't join a party that attacks me and talks about what a horrible person I am.

Sure, why not? Angus King can still vote with Democrats on issues he agrees with. Why would he turn down a shot at being a chair of some committee?

Of course, he is far more likely to win as a Democrat in 2018 than to survive a Republican primary.

In the gubernatorial election, presumably? He's not up for re-election until 2018.

Oh, right.

Yes, such a thing is unheard of.

That being said, good for him! - He ran as a Dem, staying a dem is the honourable thing to do.....

The nation actually needs senators who live "behind enemy lines" (Collins in Maine, Heidi Heitkamp in North Dakota, etc...)

The polarization is destroying the nation.

I'll defend Manchin on one issue: As governor, he wanted to revoke the driver's licenses of high school bullies. It was about time someone said no to the spoiled brats, and Manchin is one of few people to publicly suggest this.

I'm tired of bullies of receiving preferential treatment.

It's worth pointing out that while the Democrats did (very) badly in WV last night they didn't actually fall through the floor completely; if we look at House results they nearly took WV-2 and even in double-digit defeat Rahall was at least competitive in the coal counties most of which were pretty tight either way (but he got trashed in the towns). The Democrat brand is clearly seriously tarnished in the state but is not dead. Given this you can see why the Man Chin would rather try to wait out the Obama administration and see where the land lies afterwards than defect and likely lose in a Republican primary.

No shock. Manchin would get teabagged in a second if he did so.

WV is trending GOP so quickly that democrats don't even need to be up for reelection to lose?
