At the end of the day, Kansas is Kansas.

It was Kansas.

Another factor is that Republicans were effective at painting Orman as a Democrat rather than an independent.

Orman stood for nothing. He was trying to be all things to all people.

Voters saw through that.

Voters saw through that.

So they decided to re-elect a Senator who basically disowned Kansas?

Barack Obama happened to Orman.  And Kansas' Republican-leaning electorate doesn't like Barack Obama.

It was really a combination of the Republican tsunami and the complete blankness (is that the right term?) that he was.

One factor is that Orman had no party infrastructure working on GOTV

Orman (while leading in polls):  "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore."

Kansas voters (on election day):  "Dream on, you disingenuous bastard!"

Although he had some D help, never underestimate how big of a drop off there is for independent candidates primarily for this reason.

1. Its Kansas and though Roberts made misakes, he shares their values and beliefs.
2. GOP GOTV and the wave, which also saved Brownback.
3. Orman, just like Obama in 2008, ran as being all things to all people and just like Grimes and her refusal to answer the question of whe she voted vote, Orman ruined his own brand as an independent by refusing to answer so many important questions.

I think the Orman campaign may have saved Brownback, funnily enough.

I knew he wouldn't win when I first saw pictures of him. He looks like a stereotypical jackass.

That's not the only reason obviously. I just couldn't picture him representing Kansas lol
