On a slightly less depressing note, it looks like turnout did improve compared to 2010 in key battleground States, according to 538:



Of course it would make sense that turnout would grow in States that weren't competitive in 2010, but Colorado, Florida, Alaska, Wisconsin and NH all had some fairly contested elections. So the postitive turnout numbers might mean that Democrats did do a decent job at mobilizing their base, after all (though it wasn't enough to save them).

This election was totally unacceptable. Maybe we should look for an alternative to elections? I mean, like what realpolitik said, we do some people have them?

As expected, this was one of the most apathetic elections in history. So the dems let all the young diverse crowd sit out while all the old white people remembered to vote!
