Hatch won Johnson county by 20 points, denying Branstad his all-county sweep and showing the increased polarization of the electorate.

I read somewhere that in all of Branstad's prior races he has won every county in the state except Lee (Fort Madison) and Johnson (Iowa City)... looks like he never will. Can't see him running again in 2018, though, you never know with him...

On a side note, what the hell makes Johnson County so Democratic?

I don't think winning 98/99 counties shows increased division.

Republicans won't ever be able to win Johnson County, making a full sweep impossible.

I think Branstad might be the main factor that gives Iowa term limits on their Governor, if he runs in 2018.

Of his six Senate elections, Chuck Grassley has won Johnson County 4/6 times, only losing it in 1980 (when there was actually a competitive race) and then 2010 (increased polarization?).

Never say never. Kasich won Cuyahoga this year.

... and Bredesen swept east Tennessee, but you were too busy dissing him for being a Democrat to notice. I think the issue you "cared" about in 2006 was healthcare?
