President of Egypt from 1970-1981, tried to retake the Sinai Peninsula with force in 1973 but failed, then entered into peace negotiations with Israel and USA leading to Sinai being returned to Egypt.

Many Palestinian militants got angry with him over the negotiations for abandoning the Palestinian cause and he was assassinated in 1981 leading to Mubarak to become President.

He didn't just try, it worked.  A lot of the Egyptian people don't like it and still think da joo is their number one enemy, but funk 'em.  They're wrong.

FF for his successfull peace efforts. HP for authoritarianism, disastrous economic policies and reintroduction of elements of the Sharia to the Egyptian law.
