When President Obama leaves the Presidency in January of 2017, he will only be 55 years of age.

We know that many  Presidents go on the lecture circuit, are visiting instructors at various universities, write their memoirs, open up their Presidential museum, devote some of their time to humanitarian work, etc.

Obviously, another run for the Presidency by Obama is out, due to the constitution.

The 2014 mid term elections aside, is it possible that President Obama may have a post Presidency political career ahead of him?  And if so, what specifically?

Please discuss.

Nope.

I don't even think he even wants a political career right now.

That's probably true at this time, but that's why I said The 2014 mid term elections aside.

I don't think it's a recent feeling.

Obama getting a lifetime Supreme Court appointment by Hillary+Dem Senate in her first two years would be top comedy. The Republican tears alone would speed up climate change and rise the sea levels.

Agreed, but it probably won't happen.

William Howard Taft.

Obama might do less harm to the GOP in as a justice of the Supreme Court because he will be unable to aid any Democratic campaigns.

On his last day in office , Obama will declare himself Ayatollah Obama for life. After dissolving the Supreme Court and Congress he will declare America a Islamic Republic and finish the war on Christians and whites.

He will go back to Kenya and install Marxo-fascism via an ebola tax, just like his father would have wanted.

I never understood the whole post-presidential career thing. If I were President for 8 years, golf and Florida would be my sole endeavors.

I see the sarcasm.

But would like to say probably more than 50% of the candidates he campaigned for lost.

And he only went to rock solid Democratic states, or so he thought.

also, presumably, some family responsibilities.

after some research, this is could be a huge undersell.  Bill Clinton got a $15m advance.  though W only got $7M.  should be an interesting thing to keep in the back of my head for the next five years.

Which happened over 90 years ago and Taft was the last former President to hold any office.

Even Bill Clinton, who was younger while departing the Presidency than Obama will be in 2016, had no futher political career, although I imagine it would be easy for him to become Senator or Governor if he only wanted to, given his great popularity.

Truth is, it became a strong political custom for former Presidents to stay "retired" and there is plenty of things to purse while "retired" from active politics. Carter and, to lesser degree, Clinton are best examples.

It's an interesting question.

Unlike Clinton and the Bushes, he doesn't have family members with their own political ambitions.

Supreme Court's one possibility if Democrats win the White House, although that would be a fight. And I'm not sure he wants to be just one of nine members in a court where there are more conservatives than liberals.

He'll likely be a spokesman for Democratic candidates in the decades to come.

It might be worth creating something like the Carter foundation to bring attention to worthy causes.

He will certainly be actively sought after in a decade or so by Democratic candidates when his presidency is looked back on as a massive success.

Taft is a weird case, because he never really wanted to be POTUS. The Chief Justiceship was always his dream, and being President was more an unhappy experience that he kind of fell into.

Obama will probably do philanthropy, or start an education foundation or something.
