It'd be funny if he decided to re-enter the Senate for his old seat, even more hilarious if he went up against Kirk and Blanched him out.

See: Post Presidential political career for President Clinton, but to a lesser degree, as Obama probably won't be as popular.

Huh, the other two Senators-turned presidents didn't even live past the first term, let alone long enough to try to regain the old seat...how strange.

Bumping this because I did some thinking....

Obama would honestly be a great fit for the Supreme Court a half a decade or so after he leaves office. He seems more fitting for that branch of government.

He would probably have to tone down future political campaigning to get the job, though.

He will write his memoirs, be a diplomatic troubleshooter, appear in some par5tisan campaigns in places where he is still popular... He has always been a horrible match for a big part of America.

When something happens to Clarence Thomas (who is overweight and black -- a bad actuarial combination for someone in his sixties), he could be the obvious choice for the Supreme Court.

He'll set up a community organizing foundation or something. They already have a tentative name - “My Brother's Keeper.”

He'll also become a much louder spokesman for the African American community, something he can't do right now as President.

Beyond that, probably become the link between African Americans and Democrats. Like Clinton was between third way groups and the Democratic Party after his presidenc .

I understand there are some good openings for sock-puppets on the comedy circuit. That would let him cater to his strengths.

He will speak at Dem conventions and campaign for Democratic candidates. He will write books and create some big foundation. Actual office? Nah..

Depends,

If he leaves office with his current approvals(or lower) I think he will do what Bush II is doing right now. I.e. remain low-key by hitting the lecture circuit occasionally, write a book, and commit himself to humanitarian causes of one sort or another.

I could see him playing a more important part in American politics like Bill has been doing if he finishes the Presidency with stronger approvals.

It's almost too early to speculate imo so we'll see.
