Before 2014:

We can definitely argue about Alaska, but for now I'm assuming it goes to Walker

Spending a lot of money on a VT campaign generally backfires.

A challenge for y'all: think of a presidential race that could produce a map that looks like that.

IL and Ma would be blue if Vallas , not Quinn been the nominee, preview of 2018 gov rematch.

I don't see how IL have a different nominee for Governor affects MA, but yes, pretty much everyone but William Daley could have beat Rauner.

An (Atlas) blue Illinois is cringeworthy. Counting down the days to 2018.

The vast majority of the gubernatorial races being in a midterm year is killing the Democrats.

In states where we have the trifecta we need to move governor's races to presidential years ASAP.

To move a election to a different year you'd probably need a trifecta + a supermajority in the State Houses.

Soooo... we could do that in VT, CA, HI, and DE.

That won't help us much.

That's true. If anything it would hurt in CA, because you'd miss out on the gubernatorial turnout boost in the congressional races.

If you move the governor's races to the Presidential years, you'd end up reducing midterm turnout even more, potentially costing the Democrats more.

I think from a good-government standpoint too, it's nice to have elections where all the oxygen isn't drawn out of the room by the Presidential race.

Again, I'd like to congratulate Illinois for realizing they were on the wrong track and throwing out Quinn. It's unfortunate that Wisconsin, Kansas, Georgia, and South Carolina didn't realize the same.....
