An end to the second most shocking race of 2014. What a ride.

Such a world of difference in class between Ed Gillespie and Chris McDaniel/Joe Miller.

I suppose 5% is a better chance than 1%. The real difference is that in Alaska, there are many more outstanding rural/absentee ballots. They're not recounting - they're just not done counting.

Either way, an impressive showing for Gillespie. I expect him to win the Governorship in three years.

There are about 24,000 votes out, he has to win by a 2 to 1 margin to win his seat. I understand if he wants to wait just to see, but there really isn't a shot for him.

Not surprising.  Gillespie's margin was too big for a recount to overcome.

Furthermore, Gillespie is now in a very, very strong position for further office in Virginia.  He could definitely run for governor in 2017 and win with Hillary as President.  He wouldn't throw that away by being a sore loser.

Or equally better yet for him he could wait until 2018 and take on the much weaker Tim Kaine if HRC is elected in 2016.

I'm pretty sure McDaniel still hasn't conceded.

McDaniel is bizarre. Dude is going to become U.S. Senator in the next 6 or 8 years, so why fight this so hard?

It wasn't the only Senate election in Mississippi.

I'd say so. That was on absolutely no one's radar, and it wasn't even close.

Ed was never seeking to win this seat, but the Governorship in 2017 is the prize and I would say he is the front runner.

Heavily understimeated, all he had to do was place and he ended up coming within a little extra GOTV in the SW of winning the seat.

It was on people's radar. Major Prognosticators were lowering it to just Lean D in the final weeks, and it was widely expected to be an embarrassing margin of victory for Brown (4-8 points). It's just that nobody important actually went out on a limb and said it would flip.

If Cochran retires, as I expect him to do in 2020, anything is possible...
