Given the benefit of historical hindsight, in which contested presidential election did it end up mattering the least who won?

1952 and 1956:

Since Eisenhower never dismantled the New Deal, I doubt Stevenson would have been that different. For all we know he would have toppled Mossadegh too, since everyone to the right of Henry Wallace was hysterical about communism at that time.

Other contenders: 1908, 1920, maybe 1968 (excluding George Wallace of course), 1996?

2012 without a doubt, since the outcome is/was the election of a conservative stooge bending to the Tea Party and Corporate GOP whims and a  partisanly divided Congress.

1996 takes second place

1940 in third since Wilkie would've probably done everything the same way,the issue was war at that point and Wilkie was a straight-up interventionist just slightly to the right on economics.

1908 and 1924 are also good contenders too.
